Non Directive Play Therapy
Non directive play therapy is a well researched and effective means of therapy specifically designed for children. It's based on the idea that children most often make sense of the world through play. When intentional and safe space is created by a well trained therapist for a child to play, that child will play out their hurts, frustrations, and the things that don’t make sense to them. While each situation is highly individual, an average process is somewhere between 16-20 sessions. As the child moves through this process they are able to re-process, heal, and move forward with hope.
adolescent therapy
The transition from being a child to a healthy capable adult is not a simple process for anyone. We design support specifically around your family and the unique set of variables you are facing. Adolescence is the developmental stage where identity is formed and life long values are forged. We can use a variety of age appropriate tools to help this process. We like to work with the client to design a process with them.
family support
The family system is the most important and impactful resource a child has. We want to support the entire system. We can customize this support to your specific needs. Some of the resources we use are parent consulting and support, family sessions, and providing referrals to community resources which may be useful in helping in the healing process.
Wilderness Therapy
We partner with YD Adventures to work with students out on wilderness trips. The benefits we see often create life long memories. The trips offer unique impact in client’s lives, often impacting decisions that have life long effects.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.
EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.
The American Psychiatric Association, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs/Dept. of Defense, The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and the World Health Organization among many other national and international organizations recognize EMDR therapy as an effective treatment.
Please see individual provider bios to see which of our clinicians can incorporate EMDR into your process.
